China Mineral Resources opens Katumba copper mine in Zambia

On 16th August local time, China Mineral Resources Group Corporation (CMRC) held a grand opening ceremony for 

the Kitumba copper mine in Mumbwa, Zambia, marking the official start of this strategically important mineral 

resources development project. The groundbreaking ceremony is not only an important practice of China 

Mineral Resources' internationalisation strategy, but also another milestone in the deepening cooperation 

between China and Zambia in the field of mining industry.

The Katumba Copper Mine, located about 210 kilometres west-northwest of Lusaka, Zambia, has attracted the attention

 of the global mining industry with its excellent geographical location and perfect infrastructure. The vast area of 

248 square kilometres of mining rights not only contains rich copper mineral resources, but also carries CMR's unlimited 

vision for future development.

According to the resource estimation report issued by MSA Group (Pty) Ltd, an authoritative third-party independent 

organisation, which complies with the Australian JORC Code (2012 Edition), the cumulative copper mineral resources 

in the Katumba Copper Mining Area is as high as 27.9 million tonnes, with 614,000 tonnes of copper metal, 

and the average grade of copper is 2.2%. This data not only highlights the richness of resources in the mine, 

but also provides a solid resource guarantee for the subsequent development of the project.

There are still a number of gravity, magnetic anomalies, electrical anomalies and soil geochemical anomalies outside

 the explored area, which indicate that the mining area has great potential for mineralisation and a broad prospect for

 finding minerals. This provides unlimited possibilities for China Mineral Resources to increase its resources and expand

 its production scale in the future, and also lays a solid foundation for the company's mining layout in Zambia and even in Africa.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the leaders of CMR said that the company will uphold the concept of green development,

 focus on environmental protection and social responsibility, and ensure that the project will bring real benefits to the local 

community while promoting economic development. At the same time, the company will also strengthen communication 

and cooperation with the Zambian government and partners from all walks of life to jointly promote the smooth implementation 

and sustainable development of the project.
