According to Reuters on August 27th, Nicolas Kanter, CEO of PT Aneka Tambang (Antam), a state-owned mining
company in Indonesia, revealed in public that in order to achieve deep expansion of downstream mining business
and directly support the Indonesian government's grand blueprint for developing the battery production industry,
Antam plans to acquire a nickel processing and smelting plant under Chinese stainless steel giant Qingshan Holdings
Group. This measure marks Antam's official entry into the field of deep processing of nickel resources, aiming to ensure
the stability of the supply chain and the safety of raw material supply by mastering the key links of nickel processing.
Kanter emphasized that this acquisition will be an important component of the company's non organic growth strategy.
Non organic growth strategy typically means that companies rapidly expand their scale through mergers and acquisitions,
joint ventures, and other means to acquire new technologies or resources, thereby accelerating their business development
and market expansion. Antam's choice is undoubtedly the result of its profound insight into the potential of the electric
vehicle battery market and its active response to the Indonesian government's call to develop the battery industry.
In addition, Antam has announced a cooperation plan with Chinese Contemporary Brunp Lygend Ltd (CBL). Both parties
will work together to build two nickel plants, further consolidating Antam's leading position in nickel resource development
and utilization. This cooperation will not only bring advanced production technology and management experience
to Antam, but also help enhance its competitiveness in the global nickel market and provide strong support for the
construction of the Indonesian electric vehicle battery ecosystem.
Antam's series of strategic initiatives not only reflect the company's optimistic expectations for the prospects of the
electric vehicle battery market, but also reflect its sense of responsibility and mission to actively respond to the
Indonesian government's call for the development of the battery industry. With the continuous growth of global
demand for electric vehicles and advances in technology, battery production has become an industry with enormous
potential. Indonesia, as a resource rich country, has inherent advantages in developing the battery production industry.
Antam's expansion of downstream business and strategic investments will not only help promote the improvement
and development of Indonesia's battery industry chain, but also contribute significantly to Indonesia's rise in the
global electric vehicle market.
