Ecological restoration of abandoned rare earth mines in Yingde adopts the "blueberry model"

The National Geological Experimental Testing Center recently completed the implementation plan for the ecological 

restoration and value-added utilization project of the abandoned rare earth mine in Baisha Town, Yingde City, Guangdong

 Province. The project plans to implement ecological greening and value-added utilization restoration of 1715 acres

of abandoned rare earth mining areas, with a total investment of 32.98 million yuan, including 211 acres of blueberry 

planting demonstration, 100 acres of oil tea planting, and 1404 acres of ecological carpet greening.

Previously, the ecological restoration technology research and development team of the Experimental Test Center was

 rooted in the abandoned rare earth mining area in Ganzhou. Relying on the geological survey project and the national

 key research and development plan project, it carried out investigation and evaluation, restoration technology research 

and development and application demonstration in the South Jiangxi Zudong and Dingnan Lingbei rare earth mining areas.

The ecological restoration technology research and development team of the experimental testing center has developed

 a series of soil improvement materials, including mineral materials, biochar, ecological grass bricks, microbial agents,

 etc., for the abandoned land of rare earth mines with pH 4.0~5.5. These materials improve the soil microenvironment, 

increase soil fertility, and passivate heavy metals. Blueberries are planted, and the average income per mu during the peak

 fruiting period is estimated to be about 20000 yuan, forming a comprehensive restoration technology that integrates soil

 improvement, economic crop allocation, and land green value-added development; Proposed a solution for planting 

economic crops suitable for abandoned rare earth mines; Publish one monograph; The project results were selected 

for the "List of Innovative and Applicable Technologies for National Land Space Ecological Restoration (First Batch)" 

by the Ministry of Natural Resources and won the second prize of Rare Earth Science and Technology Award.
